BCIE - Redrum

Done during the stream.

I wanted to challenge myself by painting something on just one layer. It went smoother than I expected even though the actual result looks a bit wonky but that's what you can expect when you try new stuff.


Anyway, Redrum is a recreational drug in the Gateworld that causes long-lasting euphoria and mild perception loss. You're mainly meant to huff it drop-wise but you can drink it for a shorter but far more intense effect. Usually the huffed effect lasts for about 30-90 minutes while the drunk effect lasts for a about half that. Excessive consumption of Redrum can cause temporary to permanent blindness and hearing loss, and drinking it increases the chances of that greatly. It's a very expensive drug and because of that it's often not considered a serious problem to the majority of the Gateworld's inhabitants, for the average middle and lower class there are plenty of far cheaper and more easily acquired drugs. Despite this, Redrum is taken extremely seriously by the authorities because of how it's produced.

Redrum is derived from the blood of Succubi and its potency increases if the Succubus has been recently fed. But the potency reaches its full peak if the Succubus in question has fed on her partner until he or she is dead. Whenever Redrum is found, it's often expected that some poor soul literally died in its making.


Unrelated to the lore, the name actually comes from a song. Gasoline by Seether, where the lyrics go "She's getting high on revlon" but "revlon" is slurred so that it sounds like "red rum." Riaden234 pointed out that Redrum backwards is "murder" which I didn't even think of but that's fucking badass, isn't it?
